BlackBerry for me

I was told today I might be getting a BlackBerry 7750 so I can assist with our city's effort in the war on terrorism. Cool.

XM vs. Sirius

All I know is that Sirius better come up with something to compete with this before Howard goes on the air in 2006.

Allerca | The Hypo-Allergenic Cat

Genetically engineering a Hypo-Allergenic Cat seems kind of wrong to me. The cat allergen is a potent protein secreted by the cat’s skin and salivary glands. Removal of the allergen will not harm the cats in any way. The resulting hypoallergenic cats will improve the health and quality of life for millions of cat-allergy sufferers. If cats have always secreted the mystical "cat allergen" and we switch that off genetically, I think the result will either be some kind of zombie cat with a thirst for human flesh or super-intelligent cats with huge pulsating brains that will invent time travel.

Segway | Concept Centaur

Segway | Concept Centaur . It's not for sale, but if it was, who would buy one anyway? It looks fun, but not four thousand dollars worth of fun.

Windows XP SP2

I finally installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 today. It took about 30 minutes to install and everything still seems to be working ok. I disabled the Windows firewall because my router has a built-in firewall and configuring the Windows firewall for every little thing seems to be too much trouble. FarCry seemed to run without any problems, which is a relief. Maybe I'll get lucky and I won't run into any compatibility issues.

Sick

I'm sick again. Dry hacking cough. Stuffed up nose. It's getting pretty old. I'm really not an unhealthy guy...I take vitamins (usually), drink green tea, get plenty of sleep and eat my fruits and vegetables. Ok, I could eat more vegetables. But that's not the point. I seem to be getting sick more and more these days. Why? So today, I stayed home all day and caught up on a bunch of TV. Star Trek Enterprise - First episode of the season was pretty good. Temporal agents have aligned themselves with Nazi Germany and altered the outcome of World War II. It's a two-part episode so I'll have to wait until next week to find out how it ends. LOST - I missed the first episode of this but thought it should be pretty easy to figure out what was going on. It's about a bunch of people stranded on an island after a plane crash. It's not bad really. I'll keep watching it until it gets crappy. Good Eats - Caught up on a couple of "cooking wit...

ZOOM!

The zoom quilt is a collaborative art project and it's cool.

Stern on Sirius!

It's not going to happen until 2006, but Howard making the jump to satellite radio is kinda good and kinda bad at the same time. Good = More raunch than ever before! Bad = It's no longer FREE. The problem with satellite radio is that you have to buy a special satellite tuner, an FM modulator so you can listen in your car and a separate antenna. Then you have to pay 12.95 a month to subscribe or a lifetime fee of $500 (That's $500 for the lifetime of the RADIO , not your lifetime.) Also, I hear the reception can be spotty and sometimes it cuts out when you go under bridges. I hope the price stays the same over the next 15 months...oh who am I kidding. I'll be the first in line to pay. I'm such a sucker.

November 7th?

The Simpsons Archive: The Springfield Times : "Sep 21 - The Simpsons' 16th season will start with 'Treehouse of Horror XV' on November 7. See our Upcoming Episodes page for further season 16 details."

Creepy? Yes.

These CGI people are the closest to real I have ever seen. Some pictures are better than others, but you can always tell they are computer generated. Either the lines by the mouth are too straight, the sheen on the lips is too shiny, the reflections on the eye are too reflecty or the strands of hair are distinctly separate. Anyway, they are still creepy.

MythTV

MythTV is a open source TiVo replacement that runs on Linux. It kinda makes you want to use a cheap PC as a PVR and ditch the TiVo service. I'm not against TiVo, in fact I love it. But it's still so expensive. Lifetime service is now up to $299 and that's the lifetime of the TiVo, not your lifetime. We've gone through so many TiVo units...one failed modem and two or three failed hard drives. Our most recent TiVo purchase was for one of the new 40 hr. silver units for $80 bucks from Amazon.com and we were able to transfer the lifetime service from our old Series 1 unit to this one because I complained to TiVo Customer Service about purchasing the Home Media Option 3 months before they gave it away for FREE . If we had to buy a brand new unit with the service all over again, I'd have to seriously think about it. Who knows how much longer TiVo will be in business?

The Definitive D'oh List

The Simpsons Archive: The Definitive D'oh List . Speaking of the Simpsons...just when does the new season start???

Prose Before Hos

Busted Tees: Hip, funny t-shirts. Jokes you can wear: Prose Before Hos : "And here's another thing. Ya know that cute girl in your english class that you've been trying to impress? This shirt should do the trick. It shows you're smart and clever while making sure she knows you've got a sense of humor too. Place your order on a Monday, get the shirt on a Thursday, wear it to class on Friday and ask her out for Saturday. After that, welcome to Pantyville, population: you." Hee-larious.
